Orlando Ballet School at the Patel Conservatory ( TAMPA ) Summer Intensive:

  • Character Dance will not be taught at the Tampa Program.  Students do not need Character shoes or a Character Skirt. 

  • The Summer Intensive will conclude on Saturday, June 20. Family members and friends are invited to observe all scheduled classes and to attend a closing party at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center. All Summer Intensive events will conclude by 3:30 pm. 

  • We are pleased to announce the following ballet instructors for the Tampa Program:

    • Week 1: Ivonne Lemus, Julio Montano, Melissa Stafford

    • Week 2: Robert Hill, Ivonne Lemus, Melissa Stafford, Peter Stark 

  • Some classes will take place nearby at Howard W. Blake High School for the Performing Arts.  

Frequently Asked questions regarding Orlando Ballet School Summer Intensive 2009

Q:  What are the dates of the Summer Programs?

A:  Tampa program dates are June 8 – June 20, 2009
       Orlando program dates are June 22 – July 24, 2009
 
Q:  What is the age requirement for students auditioning?
A:   11years and up. Girls must be dancing on pointe.
 
Q:  What is required by the student at the time of the audition?
A:   Photos and letters of recommendation are not required; however, a photo in 1st  arabesque is appreciated for summer auditions.  Girls, you will need to bring your pointe shoes. $25 audition fee is required.  Check or cash is acceptable.  Those interested in Orlando Ballet II for either the summer or the 2009-2010 year, please bring a resumes, head shot and photo in 1st position.
 
Q:  How early should a student arrive at the audition?
A:   Please come one half hour before the class to register and stretch.
 
Q:   What should a student wear to the audition?
A:   Girls should wear black leotard, pink tights, point ballet/pointe shoes. 
       Boys should wear white plain T-shirt, black tights, black ballet shoes.
       No leg warmers, plastic pants, jackets, etc. should be worn once class begins.
 
Q:   Can you audition for both Tampa and Orlando at the same audition?
A:   Yes
 
Q:   Are scholarships available?
A:   A limited number of merit scholarships are available for the summer intensive.  Upon acceptance we will notify the student by mail of acceptance and/or scholarship.
 
Q:  How long after the audition is the student notified?
A:   Students will be notified approx. two weeks after the audition. Please do not call prior to two weeks after your audition date.
 
Q:  Will I receive additional information after I am accepted?
A:   Once your have submitted your $500 deposit, a comprehensive package will be sent containing complete information on dorms, food, day trips, airport pickup, etc.
 
Q:  When is the deposit due?
        Deposits are due based on the location of your audition.
 Deposit is due on March 13, 2009 if you auditioned in:  Columbus , OH – Philadelphia , PA – Chicago , IL – Houston , TX - Dallas , TX – Tampa , FL         
 
Q:   Can I audition by video?
A:   Yes.  You should include in your audition video center adg., turns, small and large         jumps.  Girls should be on pointe, Maximum five minutes (please do not send a  class tape).
 Fee:  $35.  Video deadline is Monday, February 28, 2009.  VHS tape or DVD only
        (no mini tapes)
